The Shire’s music scene packs an array of legendary nightclubs, dimly lit music venues and an annual music conference. Whether you are an indie obsessive, jazz lover or electronic enthusiast, the growing music offerings in the Shire ensures every person can spend the weekend enjoying the music they love. Read this round up of some of the Shire’s most exciting music offerings to keep you in the loop.

Australian Music Week - November 6-10

First on the list is the ultimate event for any music lover, of any genre - Australian Music Week. For five days, every November, music obsessed fans and industry experts meet for the annual conference. Throughout the week, an epic roster of 150 artists, specialising in every genre from folk, indie pop, electronica, rock and blues, country and everything in between hit the coast of Cronulla and entertain thousands.

If rocking out stageside isn’t enough to keep you entertained, take part in over 20 panels and masterclasses to learn more about the industry. Following the success of last year, the guys at Australian Music Week are bringing back Australia’s only dedicated Music Film Festival, showcasing music related film. Haven’t quite sold you on buying your ticket? There are some exciting things to come surrounding everyone’s favourite new medium - podcasting. Bob Lesfetz, US music legend, podcaster and author is a keynote speaker you will not want to miss.

Whatever you love, the list of exciting artists and industry experts descending on the Shire is enough to get anyone’s foot tapping.

Brass Monkey, Cronulla

A music list for the Shire couldn’t skip past legendary bar, Brass Monkey. This intimate live music venue is one of the best things to come out of the 90s since Friends. A huge 20 years on, this establishment is still going strong, serving live jazz and rock and a packed drinks list of local and international beers. For food, a menu of Middle Eastern fare and classic pizzas can keep you full whilst you take your seat at the dimly lit basement. It is not unusual for a show to sell out so keep your eye on their roster list to make sure you don’t miss out. For any lover of live music, this Cronulla staple is a must visit for some of the best atmosphere in the Shire.

Highfield, Caringbah

Highfield in Caringbah hosts multiple levels of music and vibes to cater to a range of music lovers. Looking for a heavy bass and electronic music? The Botanical throws a live DJ party every Friday and Saturday night for anyone searching to dance the weekend away. In between themed trivia nights such as Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Public House offers a range of live music acts. From musicians such as Alex Lloyd, celebrating his 1999 Aria win, to Sydney born band Thirsty Merc, Public House is a host to a variety of homegrown talent to get you excited.

Croydon Lane Wine and Tapas Bar, Cronulla

Croydon Lane Wine and Tapas bar has added weekly music to its epic offerings. Every Sunday, from 4pm you can enjoy live music alongside another Sunday regular - tapas and bottomless bellinis. Sit in the beautiful wine garden and take part in the Croydon SunSets - a roster of local artists to help you wind down the week and spend your Sundays the right way. For Australian Music Week fans, keep your eyes peeled for some special events happening during the festival.

El Sol Mexican, Cronulla

If you like some tunes with your tacos - El Sol Mexican will not disappoint. Every Wednesday and Sunday you can find local and touring acts to keep your ears busy whilst you gorge on a Mexican feast.

Vinyl Room, Gymea

The Vinyl Room has been a go-to spot for patrons since 1983. Guaranteed to get you dancing and singing until your throat hurts (expect Daryl Braithwaites classic ‘The Horses’ to make an appearance). Retro tunes and Friday night queues can be expected - don’t tell us we didn’t warn you.

Gymea Hotel

Nestled in the heart of the Shire, this local hangout is perfect for live entertainment and a relaxed lunch. With DJ decks, a dance floor and a lineup of acts filling their calendar, the Gymea Hotel is quickly becoming a mainstay for locals to enjoy amazing live music. If an 80s tribute band isn’t enough for you, why not explore the other fixtures on the list, from one hit wonders to stand up comedy, you are sure to have a fun time.

Sutherland Entertainment Centre

The Sutherland Entertainment Centre offers a variety of live music experiences. Musical performances from classic shows such as Les Miserables and show ‘Hits of the Good Old Days’ including well known artists Lucky Starr, Karen Beckett and more will take the stage. More of a classic buff? The Sutherland Shire Symphony Orchestra brings pieces such as Beethoven's Symphony No 5 to life at the Sutherland Entertainment Centre. For more information on each performance, join the pre-concert address, hosted by the conductor.
