It goes without saying that for Shire-dwellers, summer represents one of the most wonderful times of the year. With countless beaches, super cool cafes, tried-and-tested watering holes and new openings to enjoy, there are lots of ways to make the most of the amazing weather.
Here are 10 hot activities and ideas to try this summer in the Sutherland Shire.
Brunch at Bianchini’s 2.0
A brand new Bianchini’s experience has just landed. Replacing Bianchini’s Espresso, this brand-spanking-new venue hosts up to 100 people and treats them to a menu that spans big breakfasts to seafood. Watch this space - a dinner menu is dropping early December!
Sip on a Spritz at Bobbys
Recently opened restaurant Bobbys in Cronulla has already garnered a lot of hype. We won’t reveal too much, but we paid the Euro-inspired spot a visit recently and trust us when we say: it’s absolutely worth a visit. Be sure to order a spritz while you’re there, because is there anything more summer-appropriate?
Visit the Shire’s hidden swim spots
Nothing beats a dip at the beach, but when you want to try something a bit different, opt instead for a natural swimming spot. The Shire is full of hidden swim holes to cool down in - from waterfalls found on nature hikes to easily accessed, bush-surrounded pools. Find our guide here.
Cool down with a cone from Anita
Internationally-renowned Anita Gelato has a rep for serving up some of the best, most mouthwatering ice cream around. With countless flavours to choose from (including vegan, sugar free and yoghurt varieties), there’s no better way to spend a summer’s afternoon than with a cone from Anita in hand.
Indulge in pastry heaven at FLOUR
The delicious and delectable FLOUR coffee and doughroom is fairly new to the streets of the Shire, but it’s already made a sweet impression. The talented team here whip up everything from pastries and bread to quiches, cookies and scrolls.
Explore the great outdoors
We’re not short of much here in the Shire, and seriously stunning walks are no exception. From a stroll along the esplanade to a more intense hike around the Royal National Park or through rugged bushland, there’s a walk for every one (yes, even those with kids). You can find our guide to the Shire’s best walks here.
Leave the car parked and instead hop on a ferry and sail on over to Bundeena - it’s a much more scenic route, afterall. While away the day lazing about on the gorgeous Jibbon Beach, and check out the recently opened Humes Bar and Grill to enjoy a cocktail or two, because remember, you didn’t drive!
Enjoy a sunset drink at Cronulla Sailing Club
With a next-to-none sunset view and live music, there’s no better way to spend a Friday than with a drink in hand relaxing at Cronulla Sailing Club. Featuring a menu developed by Giovenco, you can add some food into the mix, too.
Plan a Sunday session
Sunday sessions are synonymous with summer, and in the Shire there are plenty of spots to book one in. Some of our favourites include Johnny Hu, Next Door, The Laneway Caringbah and The Como Hotel.
Escape the heat at Part Time Ceramics
If summer is not your season, you may prefer to spend some time cooling off indoors - so why not learn a new skill while you’re at it? Part Time Ceramics is offering Christmas workshops, pottery and prosecco classes and date nights - just to name a few.
